A Croatian Dream

George Bernard Shaw once said ‘if you want to see heaven on earth, come to Dubrovnik’ and this still rings true to this very day.

The city is famous for its calm blue waters, magnificent walls scaling the city, dusty orange roofs and is now a Unesco world heritage site and Croatia’s most up-market destination.

The city is full of top notch seafood and pristine beaches – albeit sometimes a little crowded in high season! Our Croatian expert shares her tips on how to spend a great day in Dubrovnik…

Spend your morning relaxing and swimming in the Adriatic at City Beach just outside of the Old City, or for those slightly more adventurous holiday makers grab a kayak and head out to the island of Lokrum.

Make sure you charge up your iPhone and get ready for all the Instagram likes heading your way as you take a cable car up the mountain for sunset – the views are breath taking.

Once you’ve got your fair share of snaps then head on out for dinner at Azur. This little gem quickly went to number one on Trip Advisor in its very first season! The food here is very reasonably priced and doesn’t disappoint. We recommend the Adriatic prawn pouches on grilled aubergine in a red curry and coconut sauce.

By night the bars of Dubrovnik spring to life with a number of spots serving up fine Dalmatian wines and delicious cocktails. Make sure you stop by D’Vino, where Sasha and his friendly and knowledgeable team can help you choose from one of their hundreds of different varieties of wine.

Then slowly head home through the winding cobbled streets while planning your next trip to this charming and ever so enchanted city.
